SHIRT STORY: Have you ever heard of a trail angel?
In the hiking world, a trail angel is a person who helps hikers on their journey. Trail angels might wait on the path to offer cold water to weary travelers. They might offer a ride into town for supplies for those on long "thru-hikes." Other trail angels might cook and bring food to the path so hikers can refuel their energy with a warm meal before continuing on their journey.
But my personal favorites are the trail angels who set out on the trail without a pack of their own, hoping to find hikers who will allow them to carry their packs a few miles.
Can you even imagine what kind of relief that might offer a hiker who is months into their cross-country journey? Imagine the relief to hear a stranger say, "I bet that's so heavy. Can I walk with you and carry your pack for awhile? You must be so tired."
The truth is, I'm not a hiker. I don't know that lifestyle at all, but I do know the relief of having someone look me in the eyes and say, "Can I help you? Can I walk with you for a bit? Can I take care of that for you?"
Scripture is clear. The Lord bids us in Galatians 6:2, "Carry one another's burdens."
Truly, we've all been trail angels in other people's stories and we've all needed trail angels in our own.
God gave us the gift of His Presence, and He gives us the gift of each other.
